ACADEMY OF SPORT 'Australia's first regional
academy'
The
Illawarra Academy of Sport is an independent sporting organisation
that provides opportunities and encouragement to talented
young athletes from across the Illawarra region to achieve
excellence in sport.
The Academy annually supports up to 200 athletes through its
11 sport programs.
It
was the first regional academy and has, since 1985, offered
over 3,800 scholarships to talented locals.

Fitzgibbons became the first athlete to win the
prestiguous Tobin Family Award for the second time.
The award, recognising the IAS Athlete of the Year, was
presented by Ted Tobin at the 2007 Academy Graduation &

Year for 2007 was announced last night at the 28th
Illawarra Mercury-Novotel Northbeach Sports Star of the
Year Awards. Sally was a scholarship holder at the
