ACHIEVEMENTS - 2002
Each year, Sport
Athletes of the Year are nominated by coaching staff.
These athletes have displayed,
during their
scholarship year, an exceptional level of sports performance,
a commendable attitude to competition, persistent dedication
to learning and strong community support.
Inaugural Tobin Family Award
winner - REBECCA BORGO
This year Rebecca excelled on the track. At the U19
Australian Titles: 1st Sprint, 1st 500m TimeTrial, 2nd Flying
200, 2nd Team Sprint.
At the World Junior Track Championship: 5th Keirin, 5th 500m
Time Trial, and 8th Sprint, 1sts at NSW Track Titles.: Sprint,
Flying 200, 500m Time Trial, 10km scratch race and first in the
Omnium and 2nd in the 10km point race.
2002 Highly
Commended Tobin recipient - JOSHUA MINOGUE
In 2002, Joshua combined elite performance with helping others.
In the pool he was selected in Australian National Youth
Swimming Squad Member of Australian Youth Team in the Trans
Tasman Series Member of NSW Swimming Touring Team.
At Australian Age Championship he placed 1st in 200m
Butterfly and 2nd in 100m Butterfly. He is a keen
supporter of Swim School activities and participates in
supporting junior level swimmers. He also volunteers at Thirroul
SLSC on patrol and for water safety for nipper activities.
2002 Disability Athlete of the Year - MEGAN NEWELL
Swimming with the Wollongong Swimming Club, Megan is
coached by Ted McKay. Megan holds numerous national records and
continually surpasses her personal best times.
This year she represented Australia at the Far East and South
Pacific Games in South Korea where she bagged one siilver and
two bronze medals.
2002
Cricket Athlete of the Year - NATHAN DOCKER
Nathan plays for the Warilla Cricket
Club and is a left hand bat and wicketkeeper. Whilst selected
in the NSW U17's he won the National Championship final
against Victoria. He scored 157 runs during this tournament
with a highest score of 60 in the semi-finals.
Nathan has also represented Southern Zone, Southern NSW
Country and NSW Country.
2002 Cycling
Athlete of the Year - JOSH WALL
Josh excelled on track and road this
year with fine performances across the board.
He finished 1st in
the U17 Time Trial Australian Road Championships; 2nd in the
U17 Team Pursuit at the Australian Track Championships; 1st
in both the U17Time Trial and Hill Climb at the state
championships; 1st at the U17 Canberra Two-Day Junior Road
Tour and 2nd at the Wagga Two Day Junior Road Tour.
