ATHLETE ACHIEVEMENTS - 2004

Each year, Sport Athletes of the Year are nominated by coaching staff.  These athletes have displayed, during their scholarship year, an exceptional level of sports performance, a commendable attitude to competition, persistent dedication to learning and strong community support.

2003/04 Rugby Union Athlete of the Year - DANIEL PALMER

Daniel was rewarded for an outstanding season with selection in both the NSW Country U16's team and a member of the ARU National training squad 16-19 years.

A highly competitive player, Daniel leads by example and is well respected by his peers. He enjoys the contact element of the game.

2004/05 Rugby Union Athlete of the Year - KEIRAN WALLACE

Kieran reached the highest level of representation in his age group in 2004, gaining selection in the NSW Country team which toured Samoa and Tonga.

In his second year in the Academy, Keiran attended the Inter Academy Camp in Narabeen and was named "Player of the Tournament".

Keiran’s knowledge and application to the game has him targeted to be a player of the future.  Kieran’s career goals include playing for the Wallabies.

2005 Sailing Athlete of the Year - ALISHA KAWALLA

Alisha, a member of both NSWIS &  the Yachting Association of NSW training and development squad, had her first taste of International competition at just 14 years of age at the World Youth Sailing Championships, placing 8th in sailboard.

Coming from a family of sailors, Alisha has started at a young age and her four years of experience with the Academy proved invaluable this year as she took out the Australian Youth and placed 2nd in the Open class at Australian Sailboard Championships.

2004 Swimming Athlete of the Year - JOSH MINOGUE

This is Josh's fourth year with the Illawarra Academy of Sport, which proved to be another successful scholarship year.

After a dominant Australian Championships where he won silver in the U’16 butterfly, Minogue was selected to represent Australia at the Youth Pan Pacific Games in Hawaii, where he placed 4th in the 200m butterfly.

Josh is currently studying his HSC, where he is hoping to get entrance into a sport related University degree.
