Selection Process
There are two methods of selection:
1. Existing performance level of athletes at state or
national level;
2. Athletes who have been identified as having the
potential to reach top 5 at State level within 12 months.
In all instances, the coach ability
of the athlete, the athlete's dedication to improving
performance, together with expected parental support,
is also taken into account prior to athlete selection.
A selection panel involving Academy coaching staff and a representative
from Cycling NSW or Australian Cycling recommend to the Academy
athletes for scholarship.
Refer also to common eligibility criteria at
scholarship program.
Program Components
The program is tailored annually to suit the sporting level
of each individual cyclist. The program is designed
to complement each cyclist's existing training and race program
with periodic testing throughout the scholarship term. Theory topics include static and dynamic stretching routines,
hydration during racing and training, diet analysis, goal
setting, drugs in sport and bike setup.
Events within the state and national calendars are
identified at which riders must attend to continue their
development.
