Athlete Selection

Athletes nominate for scholarships and provide a detailed list of their existing achievements.  An endorsement and ranking from their state sporting organisations is sought in order to adequately assess the merits of their nomination.  Only athletes from sports recognised under the NSW Sport & Recreation's Sports Development Program are eligible for consideration.

A selection panel including representatives from a range of sporting backgrounds assess each nomination and make final recommendation to the Academy for scholarship offers.

Refer also to common eligibility criteria at scholarship program.

Program Components

The individual athletes program offers a diverse range of learning experiences across several sports.  The program is tailored annually to suit the sporting experiences of scholarship holders.

Theory sessions include nutrition, public speaking, drugs in sport, sport psychology and injury prevention.  Practical sessions are limited to fitness testing and video analysis sessions as the coaching component is not part of the program.  The program therefore seeks to supplement an athlete's existing coaching and training program.

A modest level of financial support is available to assist athletes attend high standard competition or camps or specialist equipment.
