Netball
Program Benefits
The Illawarra Academy of Sport (IAS) is an independent sporting organisation that provides the opportunity and encouragement for talented athletes to achieve excellence in sport.
The scholarship program is based on developmental activities which will enhance progress to higher levels within netball. Scholarships are offered for a twelve-month period, the majority of sessions are scheduled to avoid the busy representative netball season.
The benefits of an Academy netball scholarship include exposure to high quality coaching, individualised skill and technical training, sports science and fitness training, uniforms and specialised training equipment, personal development activities, education sessions and competition.
You would be expected to attend all sessions, in addition to your regular club and representative commitments.
Eligibility
To be eligible for a Scholarship, athletes must:
· Reside within the Southern Council Group (SCG), Wollongong, Shellharbour, Kiama, Shoalhaven and Wingecarribee
· Must be registered with Netball NSW through an Association within the SCG
· Between the ages of 15 to 16 at the beginning of the 2011/2012 scholarship.

· Demonstrate potential to compete at Netball NSW U17 Phase Two selection Trials within 12 months.
· Complete the performance standards assessment administered at the final trial.

Sponsors & Supporters
The Academy Cycling Program is supported by:
Netball NSW and local netball associations within the Southern Council Group region.
Costs
The Academy covers costs associated with core scholarship coaching, education and athletic assessment. Scholarship holders are, however, required to contribute to some components of the program. The cost to new scholarship holders in 2011 would have been approximately $700 which would have covered one camp, two tours (travel and accommodation and some meals), uniform contribution and match fees for competition opportunities in Canberra and Sydney. It is anticipated the cost to 2012 scholarship holders will be similar.
