SYDNEY WATER CHALLENGE

The Sydney Water Challenge is a winter swim meet organised by South Coast & Tablelands Swimming Association and promoted by the Academy as a joint venture to provide a state qualifying event for local swimmers; and opportunity to profile Academy swimmers, and a means through which funds are raised to support the Sydney Water Swim program.

The meet is held annually in August and sponsored by Sydney Water - in 2004 it attracted more than 300 entries.  (At right) Dave Sommers from Sydney Water addresses the 500 spectators present at the 2004 Challenge.

Swimmers from across the region and from Sydney attended the meet as it was one of the last state qualifying meets in the winter season. Also present is Brian Weir, Chairman of the Academy and Olympian, Head Swim coach, Ron McKeon.

Entrants at the Challenge received a Sydney Water & IAS gift bag with caps and other swim souvenirs.  The Sydney Water Challenge was held at Kiama Leisure Centre and the Academy is grateful for the support of Kiama Swim Club in their role in organising the meet.
